Covid-19 cases double in 10 days

Covid-19 cases have shot up nearly 50 per cent in 10 days as the new, highly contagious, XBB1.5 Kraken subvariant is rapidly sweeping across the country according to recent research reported in iNews . In our November and December editions of this eNews we described how the XBB1.5 variant quickly became prevalent among the highly vaccinated population in Singapore before moving on to the USA and now, as expected, its arrived in the UK. It’s believed that there is less awareness of continued danger of the coronavirus in the general public which has led to a relaxation in personal and organisational protective measures and a consequent rise in contagion. We believe in the old adage that ‘prevention is better than cure’ and provide these latest insights to you to help you avoid this dreaded virus.

WHO urges continued vigilance

The World Health Organization published a Report of the fourteenth meeting of the International Health Regulations (2005) (IHR) Emergency Committee regarding the coronavirus 2019 disease (COVID-19) pandemic, held on last Friday, 27th January 2023. The WHO advises that after review of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic it determines that Covid-19 continues to be a public health emergency of international concern (PHEIC).

While there’s much ‘covid fatigue’ among the wider community, the WHO makes it clear that it’s not gone away and of sufficient concern, which is illustrated by the iNews article referred to above, that the PHEIC remains in place. Despite the fatigue, its essential to remain vigilant, advises the WHO.

What can be done to prevent further spread and continued disruption to work and social lives? There are two simple actions, firstly sanitise hands to stop contact based transmission of the virus and secondly monitor for fever as an elevated temperature is an indication of potential covid-19 infection. The easiest way to sanitise hands is with Ezisan contactless, instant, mist based sanitiser and do a temperature check at least daily with a highly accurate device like a FeverCheckerPro system, for example. There are organisations all over the UK and Europe using this method so, if in doubt, do get in touch to find your nearest. Together, these actions will help prevent contagion and a return to better lives.
